City of West Covina Memorial Day Ceremony

Post Date:05/09/2017

WEST COVINA, May 9, 2017 – The City of West Covina will hold its Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29, 2017, at 10am at the City of West Covina Civic Center Courtyard located at 1444 West Garvey Avenue South, West Covina.

The Memorial Day Ceremony will feature the National Anthem performed by the West Covina High School Choral Department; a presentation of the flags by the San Gabriel Valley US Army Color Guard; and guest speakers from the Elizabeth Dole Foundation.

On September 27, 2016, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation launched its Hidden Heroes Campaign. The campaign seeks to create national awareness and support for the 5.5 million loved ones providing care to a wounded, ill, or injured service member or veteran.  The campaign also encourages these military caregivers to come forward and self-identify, so they can receive the resources they critically need. The City of West Covina recently became a “Hidden Heroes City” in support of military caregivers and veterans.

In addition, the City of West Covina would like to remember all residents who served in the military who have passed. This year we are asking that if you would like to place your family member on a list to be remembered each Memorial Day, please contact the City of West Covina Community Services Department at (626) 939-8489. On Memorial Day, please arrive at least 30 minutes early to receive a flag to place near the West Covina Veterans Memorial in remembrance of your loved one. Family and friends of the fallen are invited to attend as the City pays tribute to these heroes from West Covina.

“Memorial Day is a reminder that we will never forget those who lost their lives in honor of patriotism and love of this country.  Participation in this event is a way for all of us to pay tribute to those in our community,” said City of West Covina Mayor Corey Warshaw.
