Free Summer Lunch for Youth at Cameron Park

Free summer lunch meals for children from June 11 through August 10, 2018

Post Date:06/07/2018

WEST COVINA, June 7, 2018 With summer right around the corner, it’s time to think about keeping children healthy while school is out.  The City of West Covina, in cooperation with the Covina Valley Unified School District, will provide free meals to children from June 11 through August 10, 2018.  The Summer Lunch Program will be held at Cameron Park which is located at 1305 East Cameron Avenue.  Funding for the program is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Free lunches will be distributed to youth up to 18 years of age, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. or until all available meals are served. The meal program will not be available on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. At the conclusion of each lunch, the participants are able to partake in recreational activities at the Cameron Community Center.

The purpose of the Summer Lunch Program is to provide meals to children who might not otherwise have a good, nutritious lunch available during the summer months.  Through this service, children have the opportunity for a nutritious meal and recreation.  As a result, children will return to school better prepared to learn and participate.

The West Covina Summer Lunch Program is a part of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which is the single largest federal resource available for local sponsors who want to combine a feeding program with a summer activity program.  The program is administered by the California Department of Education (CDE).  For more information about the national Summer Food Service Program please visit:

For more information or to volunteer for the City of West Covina Summer Lunch Program, please contact John Caropino in the Community Services Department at 626-939-8862.

The USDA that funds the Summer Lunch program is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
