A. OTHER MATTERS OR ORAL COMMUNICATIONS

This is the time when any member of the public may bring a matter to the attention of the Commission that is within the scope of duties assigned to the Commission. The Ralph M. Brown Act limits the Planning Commission and staff's ability to respond to comments on non-agendized matters at the time such comments are made. Thus, your comments may be agendized for a future meeting or referred to staff. The Commission may discuss or ask questions for clarification, if desired, at this time.

By policy of the Commission, Oral Communications at this time on the agenda is limited to a total of 15 minutes. Persons who are not afforded the opportunity to speak at this time may do so under Item E. later on the agenda.

CODE AMENDMENT NO. 01-03
GENERAL EXEMPTION
APPLICANT: City of West Covina
LOCATION: Citywide
REQUEST: The proposed code amendment consists of certain amendments to Chapter 26 (Zoning) of the West Covina Municipal Code related to Computer Game and Internet Access Centers.

Staff is working with the City of West Covina Police Department and other agencies to provide input to the Commission to assist in the decision. Staff is requesting that the Commission open the public hearing and continue Code Amendment No. 01-03 to the meeting of October 23, 2001.

VARIANCE NO. 01-06
CATEGORICAL EXEMPTION
APPLICANT: GVD Commercial Properties-Wickes Furniture
LOCATION: 301 S. Glendora Avenue
REQUEST: The applicant is requesting approval of a variance to build a 63-foot tall pylon sign where the code allows for a 35-foot tall sign, with 576 square feet of signage on the pylon sign where a maximum of 200 square feet of signage is permitted. The property is located within the "Regional-Commercial" (R-C) Zone.

It is recommended that the Planning Commission provide direction to staff regarding the appropriateness of potential strategies to fulfill the requirements to provide sufficient zoning capacity within the City to accommodate the City's allocation of housing units under the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA).
