PLANNING COMMISSION AUTHORIZED PLANNING DIRECTOR'S MODIFICATION NO. 08-15 CATEGORICAL EXEMPTION
APPLICANT: David Strauss for Norms Restaurant
LOCATION: 501 North Azusa Avenue
REQUEST: The applicant is requesting approval of a variance to construct a freestanding 241-square foot, 45-foot tall identification sign adjacent to North Azusa Avenue, which will exceed the maximum allowed height of six feet and size of 40 square feet. In addition, a planning director's modification has been requested to remodel the exterior of the existing building. The applicant is proposing to complete architectural modifications to the facade as well as various improvements to the parking area. The property is located within the "Service-Commercial" (S-C) Zone.

The applicant is requesting approval for a modification of the requirement that all new on-site utilities be placed underground. The previously approved plans indicate that power poles and overhead lines will remain in their current location during construction. The applicant is now requesting to increase the height of the existing power poles.

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES NO. 07-01
FINAL REVIEW
APPLICANT: McIntyre Company
LOCATION: 2500-2510 East Workman Avenue (Citrus Grove Shopping Center)

The applicant is requesting approval of proposed artwork to be installed at the Citrus Grove Shopping Center in the 15-foot setback area on the west side of Citrus Avenue. The artwork is a bronze sculpture that is fifteen feet in height and eight feet in width, and is called "Celebrating Old Glory." The artwork depicts four children, a rock formation, a flagpole and a dog. The artwork will include the lighting of the statue and the base of the sculpture will be concrete and one foot in height.

CATEGORICAL EXEMPTION
APPLICANT: Mel Gaines, Faith Community Church
LOCATION: 1211 East Badillo Street

The applicant is requesting the waiver of a condition of approval in the resolution requiring a deposit of $70,000 or street rehabilitation work up to centerline of Badillo Avenue contiguous to the subject property.

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES NO. 08-01
SCHEMATIC REVIEW
APPLICANT: East Valley Community Health Center
LOCATION: 420 S. Glendora Avenue

The applicant is requesting conceptual approval of proposed artwork to be installed at the building under construction for East Valley Community Health Center. The proposed artwork is a brightly colored glass canopy that would be installed as an entry element into the new building. The colored glass would be installed in a structural canopy to be designed by the project architect.

Recommendation to provide appropriate direction.
