The West Covina Fire Prevention Bureau conducts plan reviews of all construction projects within the City. All projects, with exception of fire protection and life safety systems are to be submitted directly to the West Covina Building Division; a copy will be forwarded to the Fire Prevention Bureau and reviewed for compliance with the 2016 California Fire Code, 2016 California Building Code, California Health & Safety Code and West Covina Municipal Code (WCMC).

Applicants submitting fire sprinkler and fire alarm plans must submit three complete sets directly to Fire Prevention Bureau for review of compliance with applicable codes. Upon completion of plan checks, a comment letter will be returned with the plans indicating whether the plans are approved or require corrections. Once plans have been approved a permit will be issued to begin work.

Please be aware that any work requiring a permit may not be started until the plans are approved and the permit is obtained. Work undertaken prior to issuance of a permit is subject to an immediate stop-work notice and collection of non-compliance fee.
