Welcome to Code Enforcement
The Code Enforcement Department is responsible for improving the community by educating residents and business owners about the importance of good property maintenance and when necessary, enforcing regulations that are designed to correct substandard conditions which enhances property values and creates a more attractive community to live, work, and visit.
The City of West Covina appreciates the hard work and dedication of the many residents and business owners who keep well-maintained homes and businesses.
To assist neighborhoods and businesses in preserving their appearance, the City has established property maintenance standards which are designed to enhance property values, protect the appearance, integrity and character of the community and secure the public’s health, safety and welfare. These standards are part of the City's Municipal Code and establish the minimal maintenance standards for properties.
To ensure that the Municipal Code is followed, Code Enforcement Officers assist residents and business owners in keeping their properties in compliance. Oftentimes, a friendly conversation will set things in order; however, the Code Enforcement Officers have the authority to expeditiously abate problems that may endanger the health, safety and welfare of the community. The abatement process typically requires the clean-up or repair of properties that are found to be in violation of the City's Municipal Code.
City Staff responds promptly to property maintenance complaints and works with property owners in preventing and correcting Code violations. All questions and inquiries are handled confidentially.
