The City of West Covina and SCORE are hosting a free workshop for businesses on “How to Negotiate a Commercial Lease.”  The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers a variety of loan programs for small business owners. The workshop will be on Thursday, August 24, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the West Covina City Council Chambers (located at 1444 W. Garvey Avenue South, West Covina, CA 91790).

The workshop will be presented by Mr. Dennis Wright, a SCORE Mentor. Mr. Wright has approximately 15 years of leasing experience and at retirement, he oversees leasing activity for 16 operating companies, having over 300 facilities totaling over 300 million square feet of leased space throughout North America. He currently mentors SCORE clients on all things related to leasing.

Mr. Dennis will be presenting a “how-to” interactive workshop, during which attendees will learn how the commercial leasing process really works. Mr. Wright’s presentation will cover the impacts of facility related costs on businesses. Aside from staffing costs, facility costs also have a large impact on profitability for a business. Mr. Wright’s presentation will cover the do’s and don’ts when it comes to negotiating commercial leases to ensure your business makes a profit while securing your lease term. In addition, Mr. Wright will discuss examples of common mistakes that are made by business owners seeling a lease. This workshop is a great opportunity for those who are looking for office or retail space or those who will be negotiating lease renewals.
