Mayor Pro Tem Tony Wu
Tony Wu obtained his master’s degree at the California Institute of the Arts in 1987. In 1989, as a newlywed, he and his wife Helen chose West Covina as their home sweet home, desiring a safe neighborhood, strong schools, and a sense of community. That is why he and Helen have been staying in West Covina for the past 26 years and raised two children who are both adults now.
His story is not uncommon. Through hard work, determination and perseverance, he has built successful businesses, now employing numerous employees. As a successful businessman, Tony has brought new businesses to West Covina, revitalizing an old, run-down retail center, while generating revenues for the City's critical public safety services.
He has supported West Covina's local schools' after-school programs for the much needed funds. He joined residents fighting to prevent a monster cell tower located much too close to residents and schools. That experience showed him that the people of West Covina need a strong voice, a strong leader who understands residents' concerns, needs, and priorities, and places them ahead of special interests.
Tony's singular focus is what's important to West Covina residents, making West Covina a safe place to live and play, protecting property values, and creating opportunities for thriving new businesses.
As a city councilmember elected by the people, Tony will utilize his business common sense and expertise to implement his agendas such as fixing the budget by increasing revenue from businesses, improving public safety by increasing police and firefighter numbers, improving education by business funding of after-school programs, property improvement of old homes by accessing utility grants, and ensuring government transparency to bring back trust, integrity, and accountability.
