The "Voice" Newsletter

The Cortez Park Community & Senior Center prints a quarterly newsletter listing Senior Center classes, activities, upcoming excursions, social services, and more!  You may download and print the newsletter below or pick it up at the Cortez Park Community & Senior Center.

The Voice- Fall

Senior Congregate Meal Program

Enjoy our award-winning lunch program with your friends. Meal tickets are given on a first-come-first-served basis at 8:45 a.m. to the first 175 participants. All seniors attending the meal program for the first time must complete an intake form. A suggested $3.00 donation for seniors 60+ years is encouraged, but a payment of $5.00 for all non-Seniors is needed. The Congregate Meal program is held Monday - Thursday, with lunch promptly served at 11:00 a.m. Lunch check-in is no later than 10:45 a.m. *Replacement meal cards will result in a $2.00 fee. * This program is supported by Federal funding through the Los Angeles County Department of Aging & Disabilities and is administered by the City of West Covina. Program is partially funded by the community Development Block Grant.

Nutrition Program - General Policies and Procedures

Cortez Park Community & Senior Center Activities

In addition to an exceptional lunch program, the Senior Center provides a variety of recreational activities and trips. Sports programming, support groups, volunteer opportunities, and many other programs for seniors.

  • Senior Social Services:  

    The Senior Center has social programs to assist seniors in various areas, including Help in finding home care; transportation; case management, assistance with Social Security and Medicare forms/questions, support groups, etc. 

  • Volunteering:

    The Senior Center needs volunteers to work with the Nutrition Program, Special Events, and more. 

  • Friday Movies:

    Each Friday, at 9:15 a.m., seniors are welcome to come and enjoy a movie at the Senior Center, free of charge.

  • Excursions:
     Monthly excursions to a variety of Cultural and popular destinations.  
  • Senior Men's Softball League:
    Men fifty-five and older are welcome to participate in a slow-pitch softball game held at 9:00 a.m. each Friday morning at Cameron Park. This is not a league team, and there are no fees involved, just a group of seniors playing a game for fun and exercise. So, bring your mitt and come on out.
  • Recreation Classes: 
    The Senior Center also provides a wide range of recreation classes, including Zumba, Line dancing, Computer classes, Driver safety, Tai Chi, Yoga, etc.  To learn more, please read the most recent publication of the Voice (listed above).  The Senior Center is also looking for instructors to provide other classes of interest.  Please get in touch with the senior center at (626) 331-5366 for more information.
  • Workshops: 
    The Senior Center provides a wide range of FREE workshops, including Medicare, Real Estate, Life Planning, and more!  To see the current workshops please read the most recent publication of the Voice (listed above).  The Senior Center is also looking for organizations to provide workshops of interest.  Please get in touch with the Leslie Godinez at (626) 939-8855 for more information.

Athens Low Income Senior Waste Collection Discount

The City of West Covina and Athens Services offer a 25% reduction in waste collection fees. Offer applies to West Covina LOW-INCOME Seniors 62 years or older residing in single-family homes. Based on household size, the maximum allowable gross household income ranges from $77,700 to $146,500.
